Legal Question in Legal Ethics in California

5 Years ago, I signed a 3 year contract with a security company, when it expired, they came back to my house and I signed a 2 year contract not wanting the 3 year. Well, the 2 year contract expired in July 2011, I submitted and letter of termination in December and they still continued to bill me. Upon calling them, they said that the letter stated termination in July, so I submitted another letter of termination in February, and they billed me again. Upon talking to them this time they said that since I didn't submit 30 days prior to the 2 year contract ending that it automatically renews with the 2 year contract. They say it's written within the contract so I have to pay for their services. Is there a way out of this without hurting my credit?

First of all, this question does not belong in this category. This category is for questions concerning the laws and ethical rules governing licensed attorneys in California. This question would be better in the business law category, whether attorneys who specialize in this can answer it.

With that said, it depends on the terms of the contract. If it doesn't have an automatic renewal clause, then I would say the contract was terminated.
