Acceptance of a Subpoena

Can someone other than the one who is named in a lawsuit receive a subpoena on their behalf and then make sure the named person has the information?

If the defendant has appeared in the lawsuit by filing papers with the court, the proper procedure is to serve an documents pertaining to the case on the attorney of record or directly on the party if there is no attorney. The defendant can asking for help from a third party, but service on a third party would only be proper if the third party was the attorney of record.
