Legal Question in Legal Ethics in California

I came acrossed a topic posted in a public forum pertaining to me personally and I responded after roughly 50 comments. Some of the comments were slandering my name and some false statements of actions I took. In my response I included what I felt I needed to discredit these statements

The website organization has direct affiliation with the group of people who began this topic. After my response came a flurry of back and forth responses between myself and the group. I kept my responses in a sensible, factual manner, while I recieved responses stating false information such as "your sister's on drugs" and "your brother's a homosexual". Shortly after, the actual website deleted only my responses and banned me from the site, leaving a thread of 60-70 comments about me and depriving me the right to discredit any false statements, past, present or future.

I then responded through another forum host of similar topics. I explained my concern of having those statements regarding myself, my family and group are false and asked the entire thread be removed after he deleted my previous responses, therefore recreditting false statements and taking my right to respond to future statements. I included I would look into my legal options as of nov. 30, 2009 if they were not removed. I recieved a response from and admin of the site afterwards and the thread about my character is still up and running.

Side notes:

This same admin post a response in the form, he would donate $10,000 to the group of people debating with me, if I could come up with $10,000 as well to bet in a dance challenge.

I've had a second screen name for over a year on that site and used it after the banning of my first screen name to foward the message of my legal concerns to the site I was banned. Will this effect my case?

I've since then discovered they have an email address. I sent an email explaining again in plead, to remove the thread. Still no response.

I have every message saved and documented with photos.

Could this fall under defamation of character? Do I have a case?

David Brown.

You would have a case against those who told untruths, put you in a false light , accused you of crimes, unchaste conduct or having a loathsome disease. The forum however has a broad immunity under federal law.
