Legal Question in Legal Ethics in California

Is this blackmail?

We are movie producers distributing our own film.

We sell the film to many vendors.

One vendor, who we have made sales to (in excess of $80,000 in accounts payable he is currently holding) has threatened not to pay us the $80K unless we give him one of our other vendor

accounts to sell to directly.

Summary:

We sell product to Vendor A and Vendor B. Vender A owes us $80K. Vendor A tells us he will not pay us unless we give him the revenue we make from Vendor B.

Re: Is this blackmail?

Sounds like he simply wants to hold your $80k hostage to get more out of the deal. He does not sound trustworthy to me.

You should consider filing suit to collect the $80k. Need to determine whether the contract is enforceable, whether you will be able to collect from the guy once you get a judgment.

Let me know if you want to talk about it.
