Legal Question in Legal Ethics in California

Collections Agency

I had a medical procedure in 2006 and all known parties where paid in a timely manner. The hospital used a subcontractor that was unknown to me. Recently, I noted a collection agency item on my credit report and investigated to find it was related to one of these subcontractors. I never received a bill from them and they never contacted me by phone either. I find that difficult to believe considering they have a relationshiop with both the hospital and my doctor. I have paid the collection agency to save my good credit standing (my credit score in access of 800). What recourse to I have with the subcontractor that has compromised my credit and reputation with little or no effort on their part to bill me for the alledged services?

Re: Collections Agency

It is unclear whether your credit rating is still above 800 at all three credit bureaus.

If so, follow Ms. Howard's advice. If not, repost and someone will help you.

Re: Collections Agency

Here's what I think: if you paid the debt without damaging your credit rating, then why bother? I know it's frustrating & the world is full of incompetents. But, what will you gain? It's unlikely you'll even get a free coupon for something. Plus, they don't care. I'd be grateful that I could pay the bill without damaging my credit score. You were lucky. Hold on to all the records re: this bill just in case something pops up later. Meanwhile, have a party it was this simple!
