Legal Question in Legal Ethics in California

My company sent me to training in another state. When it was time to be flown back home they would not buy the tickets until we all signed a form stating that if we were to quit within the year, we would then owe them the cost of the training. We were not told of this requirement before the training commenced.

My question is that if I were to quit within the year, would this contract legally allow them to charge me or can I claim that I was made to sign it under "duress".
