Legal Question in Legal Ethics in California

Defamation of character/internet address

Are there laws about one person giving your e-mail address to a second person without your knowledge or approval?

If I received an e-mail containing slandering remarks, does it fall under the heading of defamation of character?

If there are any laws regarding the above, what do you suggest I do?
