Legal Question in Legal Ethics in California

I had a divorce and my lawyer charged me atrocious amount as fee. The case is technically not closed a my ex has 1/2 the settlement amount due. I tried telling my laywer about the situation but she wants her full fee payment and does'nt care to make sure I received the full amount.

she keeps sending me emails me threatening me sayign this is my last chance blah blah. I find no point explaining her about the situation as she is always bitter in her responces.

Her emails freeks me out as she keeps blaming me a lier etc.

Please advice me if she can really file a complaint against me.

Who are you getting the divorce from again is it your Ex or your lawyer? It is unclear what you mean by your ex has the settlement. Does that mean you owe her more money or she owes you something? Practically speaking if you still owe your ex money it is probably better to pay her first rather than your attorney.

If you still owe your attorney money and you don't pay her yes she can sue you for the bill but first she has to offer you the option of fee arbitration through the local county bar association. That is what I assume you mean by filing a complaint against you, because there is no where else she could file a complaint against you.

If her e-mails are bordering towards abusive rather than reminders to pay your bill then I would suggest that you tell her to stop or you will either get a restraining order against her ( if it is really abusive and over the top) or report her conduct to the California Bar Association.

Also it has reached this degree you probably can't count on her to help you in the future so that's why I made the comment above.

Good luck and hope this helps.
