Legal Question in Legal Ethics in California
Non Exemptable crime
I committed a crime in 1984, Roberry. No one was killed and the circumstances were very unusual. Since then I have not been in any trouble. I have received a bs In Criminal Justice and a Masters in Clinical Psychology- Presently, I am providing psychotherapy. However- in applying for and obtaining a job- my fingerprints came back. ( I did not hide the crime on my application). I have now been informed by the state of califiornia that the crime is non-exemptable and in order for me to work in certain populations- ( children- elderly- places that are licensed by the state), I must receive a certificate rehabiliation, or be exempt. Do you know what they likelyhood of this happening is? I can certainly prove that I have been rehabilitated. And if lawyers are in charge and the read teh actual transcript of the crime- it would be clear that I was more a victim of crime and bad company than anything else. Since then I have not been in any trouble at all. Or would I stand a better chance at obtaining a attorney to help in getting this certificate or status?

Re: Non Exemptable crime
You should re-post this for a criminal attorney. Most of us who are civil attorneys probably haven't dealt with matters like yours. Congratulations, by the way, on turning this event into a learning experience!
