Legal Question in Legal Ethics in California

A police department broke my anonymity and put my well being in danger, what should I do? Do I have reason for a lawsuit?

This is not a Legal ethics question. There is duty to keep your identity secret. They offer it under certain circumstances for them to get people to cooperate but there is no requirement that in every situation they must do it.
