Legal Question in Legal Ethics in California

Property damage

I am unsure which area of law this falls under. My car was damaged while parked in the lot at work and my employer is telling me they are not liable. Approx 20 cars were damaged by overspray from roofers spray painting on a windy day. The roofers had told the facilities manager, who works for my company, to have everyone move their cars. Instead, he told them to paint on the weekend but evidently they did not listen. All of our cars are covered in overspray that will not come off easily. Who is responsible?
