Can One Spouse Represent Other Spouse?
In California traffic court, can a husband assist with his wife's defence at her request, even though he is not a member of the bar?

Re: Can One Spouse Represent Other Spouse?
No. He may come to court and be there for moral support. He can testify as a witness for her if he has any testimony that is admissible. If the wife does not speaking English, the court will sometimes allow the spouse to act as a translator. Under no circumstances will they allow him to argue the case for her, to question witnesses or do anything else that an attorney would do.
