Legal Question in Legal Ethics in California

Trial date in 5 days and no attorney contact?

Hi, can someone possible tell me if it is common practice for an attorney one has retained to not return phone calls or emails, or do what they said would be done? The questions were very simple in nature, and don't think excessive. I am the plantiff in a breach of contract case that seems to be going for the other side and the information or lack thereof since January of this year has been very frustrating. Is it common practice to wait until the last minute to let client know what is going on as Trial date is is about 4 days from now?Do I just show up and hope for the best??? Thanks for any insight.

If you have a case number, you can go to the court's website (or the courthouse) and perhaps see what's going on. I would definitely consider hiring another attorney if you have time to do so since you haven't had any communication with the one you have retained and have tried to do so.

No, this is not typical. However, it's possible that the trial date has been continued.

I would definitely find out what is going on with your attorney and whether they have it in control or not.
