Legal Question in Legal Ethics in California

I wanted to rent a space to have a central america bakery. the landlord was okay with it but i had to see if the city was okay with the place. So the city assked mef ro plans and i did it and took it to them, but before they approved th eplans i called the landlord and told him that we should met to sign the contract for th eleased of the place. he never call me back and but he called my contractor to see where I was witht he plans. my contarctor told him that i took them to the city already and that were going to havre an approval very soon. I called him many times and he did not answer my phone calls until i finally I spoke to his son and his son told me that two days ago he leased the place to someone lese who was goping to do the same king od bussiness that i was going to have int he same place. I am very upset that he stole my idea and sold it to someone else. is there any way that i can suit him?

You could sue, if you have anything in writing from the landlord. Certainly you are out the money you spent on plans and contractors. But I bet Knockoff Guy fails, and that you will have fun watching it happen.
