Legal Question in Legal Malpractice in California

lawyer left me hangin

we have been preparing for a med mal suit aginst a doctor as well as an er we have had a lawyer since 1-08 and all seemed well when suddenly he informed me that he was backing out because he did not feel he could advise me any longer and we met with another lawyer who he met with us .at this time he asked us for a release for himself and this case to be signed by us for him we agreed not knowing that the lawyer he took us to denied the case and now less than a month before the first court date i am left to stand in and i somehow need to get a doctor statement to back my case and ask the courts for some kind of continuance to replace my lawyer,does this sound like anything you might be able to help me with?
