Bakondi is full of it, as usual. Without knowing anything about the case and the grounds you have or think you have for suing the lawyer, it is impossible to tell what your measure of damages is. You may be able to sue for the full $90k or more or less. If he had handled half the cases like this he claims, he would know that. There may also be other people than the lawyer you can sue. I can also tell you that your parents' foregiveness of $60k of the debt doesn't have any bearing on your measure of damages for any cause of action I can think of that might apply. Other than that, without any details about the case, it's impossible to say anything more specific.
