Legal Question in Mediation in California
arbiter and defense attorney know each other
I am the Plaintiff, Pro Per, in a civil action.
The matter has been assigned to non-binding arbitration.
The selected arbiter graduated law school locally, two years after the
defense attorney graduated from the same local law school.
I don\'t want to delay the case, but I do want to protect myself from a
partisan decision for the defense, even though it is non binding.
Is there a procedure I can use to protect my interests??

Re: arbiter and defense attorney know each other
The arbitration rules should provide for a procedure to select or challenge the selection of the arbitrator. You'll need a copy of the rules for the service provider.
Just because they went to the same law school two years apart doesn't necessarily mean they know each other or that you'll receive a biased award.
