mediation vs settlement conference
Can a settlement conference only be done by a judge or retired judge or can a registered mediator also do a settlement conference in California

Any nuetral third party can conduct a mediation. And a rose, by any other name (i.e. "Settlement Conference"), would smell as sweet.

Often in certain LA courts, at least, they're done by a mediator.
