Burned during Pulsed-Light Hair Removal treatement

I am taking Pulsed Light Hair removal treatment from a Institue. I started tratment in Nov 05. On last Saturday it was my 3rd session. I got 1st degree skin burns on my right arm after the treatment. It's more than 10 days now and I still have burns and pain.

During the treatment I I could not bear the heat and told the technician. Technician said it is OK , nothing will happen , I will not get skin burn and continued with treatment.

Now I am going through lots of pain and burning sensation I have also consulted my regular physician about it. She asked me to discontinue the process.

We are very annoyed with the kind of treatment given in last session at the Inst. I also met and showed the burns to the technitian the next working day.

Please let us know what legal we can take.

If you're getting treatments at an institute, it's possible it's a training school. In that case, you probably had to sign a document (a release) acknowledging that you are accepting certain risks, including getting burned. I would suggest you see a dermatologist to make sure the potential for scarring is minimized.

Skin burn should not occur with laser hair removal when properly performed, especially on a 3rd visit. While a potential for burns is known and must be evaluated by the provider at a first visit, and the provider must perform testing to determine unexpected skin reaction, burning should not occur on subsequent visits if the procedure is performed correctely and you have not taken certain medications or improperly exposed the area to sunlight.

Your damages in such a case, however, may be limited dependent upon the number of burn sites, tissue damage thereto, prognosis for recovery, expenses incurred for medical treatment, emotional distress and lost wages, if any. Request your medical provider to inform you as to your expected outcome and if any skin grafting or cosmetic surgeries will be required.
