Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in California
Counselor disclosed session to third party
My fiance met with a religious counselor regarding some relationship problems. This counselor is a minister at a church both my finace and I had attended. Subsequent to this session, the counselor disclosed the session and what was discussed in that session to the assembled congregation of the church. This disclosure was apparently intended to cause embarrassment and ridicule to me.
I am wondering if CA confidentiality laws may have been violated. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Counselor disclosed session to third party
Evidently, the disclosure had something to do with someone's medical condition, considering the topic. Such information is private. The minister (and by extension, the church) may have engaged in an invasion of privacy, although I can imagine that a minister might ask the congregation to pray for an ill member. You may have legal remedies for your embarassment, including your having to locate a new church.
