Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in California
Doctor Harassment
My father was in between the hospital and a rehabilitation center (old age) for four months. During those times we were pressured by the doctors to sign a ''do not resusitate'' order if he should slip away. My father was well able to voice his opinions and continued to state that he wished to be revived if this was to happen. The doctors and staff at the hospital as well as the doctor visiting him at the center urged us to ignore his wishes. They called me cruel for not doing so and placed extra grief and pressure on my mother and sisters at a difficult time. His attending physician even quit the case and refused to come back unless we did. The care facility refused to let him come back from the hospital if we did not do the same. The hospital had meetings with us, only to once again try to pressure us, even saying they could over ride our decision if they wished. On of them even became emotional. I told them I had to honor my fathers wishes (he could still speak his wishes). In the end my mother had to sign the DNR so he could go back to the center but we refused to sign one for the hospital. My father passed away after bringing him home some weeks later. Is there anyway to stop this harassment from happening to someone again ?

Re: Doctor Harassment
If you believe that the conduct of medical professionals was unethical, you can file reports with the various medical boards that police the respective professions. If you choose to publicize the events, you'd be well-advised to be extra cautious about mentioning names or facilities, or even revealing your own identity.
