Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in California
High risk pregnancy, Dr. ignored info
I was referred to a Dr for my pregnancy. When I arrived, I explained my health concerns, as I have a severe abdominal hernia, and have had gastric bypass. After constant questions, i was always answered by, ''I am sure it will be fine''. My hernia became dangerously impacted, I was told to stop taking supplements, dispite my gastric bypass needs, and was ordered to take a blood test that required me to take dangerous levels of sugar (for a gastric patient). It was not until the hernia impaction kept me from performing the sugar test, that the Dr said he didnt really know anything about my conditions and could no longer be my Dr. According to my new Drs, the sugar test was dangerous for me, and removing someone who had gastric bypass from all supplements but a prenatal vitamin was very dangerous as well, because I can no longer absorb nutrients at a normal pace. I was also told that my hernia should have been addressed immediately as it is an issue that can cause the early delivery of my baby to save my life. I feel very concerned that the Dr who ignored all these things is not competant to deal with any situation he has not had some histroy with, and after months in his care, he failed to properly care for my situation.

Sounds like this is a no harm no foul so far. If your pregnancy goe well from hereon out, and we hope it does, there is nothing to do, except perhaps report the incident to the California Medical Board.
