Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in California

informed nonconsent by a father to a Dr.

An 8 year old boy is being sent to a psychiatrist for treatment by his mother and the father says no to the treatment to the Dr but the mother says yes. Is the Dr violating the law by not stoping treatment at the fathers request ? Both parents have joint legal custody, responsibility and rights to medical decisions and treatments.

This situation is happening right now so a quick responce would be welcomed..
