Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in California

medical over billing

I was having back pain and my doctor wanted me to get a scan--I asked how much it would cost. He said probably around $1000---when I got to the facility (convieniently located in his building) I asked again how much it would cost--they said they didnt know. I said my doctor had said around $1000 they said it sounds right. 6 months later I recieved 2 bills totaling over $5000--I feel really mislead and would have never got the test done if I would have been told the truth. When I called them to question, they almost immeadiately offered me %50 off. Do I have any rights here?

Re: medical over billing

The issue is not your rights. The issue is proof. You say, they say. It is not believable that any medial provider giving MRI or CT scans do not have a price list and know exactly what the charge is.

If you have no proof of the conversation, I suggest you negotiate your best deal and pay if off. And remember, NEVER RELY UPON VERBAL REPRESENTATIONS.
