Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in California

On 10/23/07 my father was having heart surgery as the doctors were cauterizing him the surgical sponges ignited and there was a fire, inside of him . when i asked if there was any damage done to his lungs i was told no. but now his lungs keep collapsing ,and now doctors do not want to answer any questions . also 6 weeks prior to this heart surgery he had a major heart attack and had a 4 way bypass with no lung problems at all. i would like to know if my father has any type of case?
