P..O.A and next of Kin

My mother is trying to get my Grandfathers medical records from the hospital he died from what does she need to do?

So long as she qualifies as next of kin, she can request the medical records and the hospital needs to comply. Just make the request. The hospital likely has an authorization form they will ask her to fill out, and she may need to provide a death certificate showing she is next of kin, or some other such identification. There are several statutes that regulate the hospital's obligations in this situation, which I once researched in detail. If I can locate that memo, I'll provide citations for you.

Give a written request with a Medical Information Release form signed as next of kin.

If you mother suspects malpractice, she can and should have an attorney qualified to evaluate the situation obtain the records.
