Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in California
Poor Judgement from Son's Doctor
My adopted son had started to go
through psychological therapy (he
was a neglected child, is ADHD, and
his mother and I are now going
through a divorce). My wife didn't
really want him to go to therapy, but
did so begrudgingly. His therapist said
he has many issues of trust and loss.
During a visit to his pediatrician, she
stated, in front of my son, that
therapy wasn't going to do him any
good and pointed out the reasons she
didn't think he should go.
It was already a struggle to get him
to go, but now that his pediatrician
has told him he doesn't need to go,
I'm really having trouble getting him
to cooperate.
My question is: Is his pediatrician's
poor judgement in telling him he
didn't need therapy interfering with
his mental health? Also, wasn't his pediatrician giving advice outside of
her area?

Re: Poor Judgement from Son's Doctor
I am not knowledgeable enough to agree to poor judgment by the pediatrician.
Also, it probably was not outside of her area, since being a pediatrician could certainly some knowledge of psychological problems.

This is definitely an issue your divorce attorney should consider bringing to the court's attention, i.e. your child's mental health.
