Legal Question in Military Law in California

Dual Citizenship

Do I have to renounce my dual citizenship if I enlist in the US military? If so, has this always been the case in order to serve in the US military?

Re: Dual Citizenship

As far as I know this is not the case. In fact many members of the military today are only LPR's (legal permanent residents) and not US citizens.

However, the country of your other nationality may revoke your citizenship for enlisting in another country's military. You'll need to check with them on that.

And take this with a grain of salt... I'm not an immigration lawyer. If you want to be double-sure, I would check with one.

For your initial enlistment no, SO LONG AS you do not need a security clearance.

A person seeking a security clearance cannot hold dual citizenship or a second passport.

I come across this a lot in security clearance cases I do.
