Legal Question in Military Law in California

UA in the Marines

My friend has graduated from Marine boot camp and came back home and talked about how he really enjoyed the marines and he couldn't wait to go back. Now that he went back he has sent me numerous emails and phone calls about how he hates the Marines. I just recently found out he has been AWOL or UA for 16 days now. I am really concerned for my friend, what are the consequences that can happen to him in this situation?

Re: UA in the Marines

The consequences for UA grow worse with time. The sooner he returns the better. He will be subjected to some discipline, but it will be minor discipline if he returns now. Problems do not go away simply because you run away from them. Please advise him to return to his unit and deal with it. The alternative is that the police put him in handcuffs and return him to the Marines when he is stopped for a minor traffic violation.
