Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

We accidentally put a gash in our neighbors garage door with the propeller of our boat. We are more than willing to repair it, but he's asking for a total replacement. It's a single 9x7 sheet mettal tilt up door the gash is about 6inches and about 30 years old. Do we have to replace the whole door?

The neighbor is not entitled to be bettered, he is only entitled to be put in the same place he was before. If you can get someone to repair the door to its pre-accident condition, that will be all that is required.
