My backpack accidentally bumped into a laptop inside the classroom, which fell down and broke. Am I responsible for the repairs?

Backpacks don't bump into things on their own. I presume you were wearing the backpack when this happened. If I am right, then you are just as responsible as you would have been if you had bumped into the laptop directly.

You could argue comparative fault, if the other person left his laptop in a place where it could likely be bumped off and broken.
