In California, what fees is my lawyer entitled to from the settlement?

That depends. What does your contract say? And what kind of case is it? (There are limits on contingent fees in some types of cases.) Without this information, there is no way to give you a meaningful answer.

Whatever you and the lawyer agreed to in your retainer agreement, as long as it is "reasonable."

A typical contingent fee agreement (that is, the lawyer is paid only when you get money) gives the lawyer 33%-40% of the recovery after costs are reimbursed off of the top.
