Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

I had a car accident on august 28 2010 I was a fault for not stopping at a stop sign, I was not under the influence of any substance and I did not run the stop sign intentionally either. I did not see the stop sign at all so I crashed into another car, there was no property damaged just the vehicle. Immediately the police responded to the accident they took the police report my information insurance, license etc. They did the same for the other party, in the other partys vehicle there was a passenger apparently the passenger was perfectly fine, but the driver was taken by the ambulance with no serious injuries according to the officer. So a few days ago I received notice to contact the court because a complaint was being filled against me do to the accident I had a few weeks ago. At the moment of the accident I did not take control of the situation the officers did, so I have no information on the other party involved in the accident and my insurance company is trying get a copy of the police report and information to come to an agreement but so far they dont have any information and I dont either but I never refused to pay or take responsibility. I am wondering what this complaint might be about? or what should I go in this situation?

The other party wants you to pay for the vehicle repair, and might be claiming injuries. Immediately fax a copy to your insurance carrier and ask it to assign you an attorney to defend you in the lawsuit, and to pay for any judgment or settlement. You have 30 days from the date it was served to answer the lawsuit. So don't delay.

I am not sure why the court would be calling you about a civil complaint that has been filed. However, regardless, all of this, and anything else related to the accident, should be given to your insurance company. They should be responsible for the damages that were caused. If it has to do with a traffic ticket, that is another matter. However, even with a traffic ticket, be sure and let your insurance company know about it. They may want to assist, but don't count on that, but again let them know about it.
