Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

I was in a car accident. The driver hit me from behind. We both are insured- I've never been in an accident before. I just found out today when calling the DMV that my lic had been susp. since NOV 09 due to not paying a tix I had received for driving with exp tags in May 09. I took care of that issue on Oct.13th09 but never went to court to show them. I thought the DMV would just clear it with the fees I paid on my tags. So because I never went to court to prove that I 'took care of the issue- my lic. was suspended. This year my tags were due in mar 10 but I am not working and haven't been able to pay my dues- now I found out that I owe over $1700 for the original tix and it's been sent to collections. How will this effect me in damages/PI's and criminal issues now? Please help...

Probably your suspended license won't make a difference with regard to any accident claim. So why exactly don't you have a lawyer yet for your accident? What are you waiting for?

Dealing with a personal injury case can indeed be a confusing and difficult time. The pain and aggravation caused by the accident itself can make it impossible to deal with other issues that come up, making even minor setbacks appear insurmountable. So it's no surprise that this news about your license has hit you so hard. The good news is, the suspension most likely will not affect you PI case at all, and if handled properly, your recovery from the accident case should more than make up for the cost of the ticket. Without an attorney helping you, however, it's very likely that you will be too overwhelmed to handle the case. It's easy to get help in this situation, and it costs you nothing up front. Just call toll-free 877-LION-FOR-LAW (546-6367) and get a free consultation. If you decide to retain us, you pay nothing out of pocket. We only get paid if YOU get paid.

Your license suspension did not cause the accident. The other driver's negligence was the cause. As the other responses indicate you should consider legal representation. I have some questions: Did you have liability insurance on your car at the time of the accident? (Liability insurance is essential to be entitled to pain and suffering.) You need Did you suffer an injury and if so have you been to a doctor for an examination to determine the extent of any injury and begin to receive treatment? Gaps in time between an accident and seeking medical attention can adversely affect the value of a claim. Some doctors (and chiropractors) will treat on a lien if an attorney is involved. I hope this helps. Bob
