Legal Question in Personal Injury in California
I got into a car accident and it looks like it would be in my best interest to hire legal representation. However, one that my friend recommended, is asking for my SSN. I am very protective of my SSN and only provide when required by law (for the most part). I was wondering if everyone else (other attorneys) will require my SSN as well. Thank you!

Would need to know more but may not be necessary. Anything you tell an attorney is privileged.

It is for the purpose of reporting the accident to Medicare just in case you're a recipient and get their lien right protected under federal law. However, if you are not a Medicare recipient you can sign a document stating you do not want to release that information and it should be sufficient.
