Car accident involving death
My daughter's boyfriend was driving her car & had an accident. There was a pasenger in her car that died, and my daughter sustained life threatening injuries. The police report found the driver made an unsafe lane change. There were no drugs/alcohol/speeding/phone/text msging--nothing -- it was just a freak car accident. Make sure you notify your insurance carrier ASAP.
Re: Car accident involving death
You don't necessary need a lawyer at this point, but you and your daughter and her boyfriend should refrain from discussing the accident with anyone without an attorney present. If law enforcement wants to ask questions, you can assert your right to the presence of an attorney. Yes, it sounds like the family of the deceased is contemplating legal action, but from what you've said, it sounds like their contemplating it against the other driver, not your daughter or her boyfriend. However, that he would not answer your question certainly suggests that your daughter's boyfriend may be a target, or your daughter as the owner of the vehicle. Call if you need help.

You have car insurance that will cover you for the limit of liability as owner of the car, specifically $15,000. If you get formal notice of a claim against you, notify your insurance carrier and they will provide a defense. In fact, you should notify your carrier of the accident if you didn't already. If you did, that's all you need to do for the time being.
