Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

Car Stolen from Apartment Complex

May I sue my apartment complex owner and/or manager because my car was stolen out of the carport and when I asked for the video tape of the night before I was informed that the video feed had not been recorded nor monitored despite the fact that the sign outside of the parking lot (secured by remote access) stated ''This parking lot is protected by video surveillance''.

After asking for the recording the sign referencing the video surveillance was taken down.

You can sue anybody.

However, it will be very difficult to show that there was some guarantee, or obligation, to provide the video surveillance.

These systems almost always are to protect the owner, not the tenant. Same, with the Seven-Elevens, McDonald's etc.

Your have an extremely remote chance of collecting anything.

You can sue, but don't count on recovering.
