Legal Question in Personal Injury in California
A church I attended required all members to reveal any personal indiscretions to the leaders of the church. I disclosed some of my personal indiscretions to the leaders of the church. After my disclosure, the leaders informed me that they intended to tell other members of the church about my indiscretions because they thought they can help me overcome my problems. I was very dismayed when I heard my personal information might be disclosed. I told the church leaders about my intentions about leaving the church rather than have my problems disclosed. The church leaders informed me their next step was to tell all members of the church, my neighbors, and my employer about my problems. Can I sue for invasion of privacy or libel, or anything at all?

Just get out.
If they repeat what you told them then you could not sue for defamation as they are telling "the Truth", but you could sue for intentional infliction of emotional distress, interference with economic advantage, perhaps breach of contract, etc. You should inform other church members what will happen to them if they do not comply with every wish of the church leaders. If the people wanting to do this to you are not at the very top of the church organization, report them to their superiors. The next things they are likely to do is ask for money from men and sexual favors from women members.
