Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

My daughter's friend (15 yrs old) from out of state will be staying with us in California for school. Is it necessary that we obtain a waiver from her parents for any liability should an accident, injury or something were to happen to their daughter during her stay with us or if something were to happen to her outside the house? They are paying for her food and transportation. No rent is paid to us. Our house is a rental property.

ps: Not sure if my selection of Accident Law is the correct category.

You should at least get a Power of Attorney for medical and other decision to make for the child, in case something serious happens that you need to make decisions for.

A waiver of liability would be good also, and you can make it broad enough to say that you are not liable for normal negligence, but only for gross negligence in exchange for your efforts of providing the place for him to live.
