Legal Question in Personal Injury in California
I'm employed by a security company as an undercover officer. I was severely injured on the job at a grocery store (Vons) while detaining a customer for theft. The customer attained a blade from the Vons break room where we process suspects for theft. He cut me trying to escape, severing an artery in my arm and several tendons in my hands. The suspect was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon. I have limited use of my left hand and no use of my right hand. I'm currently on workmen's comp. I feel Vons did not provide a safe place to process suspects, and my company did not provide enough training. I need some advice on what to do next.

You will likely only have a work comp claim, since your civil claim against the perpetrator will most likely yield no money, since he will have no assets. So consider Work Comp only, but after you discuss this with a knowledgeable attorney, like me.
You have a very strong worker's compensation case against your employer and if they did not provide adequate training and protection you may file a willful and serious petition against your employer. You may also bring a third party lawsuit against Vons for their negligence if they had knowledge of existance of the blade or knife in the breakroom and if it was foreseeable that a criminal may use it or get access to it. You may have what we call a 3rd party Workers Comp./ PI case. Rather than type all of the factors here, you may call me for a free consultation at 800-816-1529 x. 1. We handle PI cases all over the State of California. My website is at www.thepersonalinjury.com
