Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

How do I find out about any liens against an accident lawsuit award in California. I have a few unpaid medical bills from my hospital stay but I haven't received anything else in the 20 months since the accident other than a few bills in the mail. My new lawyer said any liens will be paid first before I get a check. Where can I check ? A web site or number to call ?

Your attorney should tell you but if there is a balance owed to any of your medical providers they can tell you if you contact them directly. If they refuse to talk to you since you have an attorney then you must rely on your attorney to inform you. There is no website or number to call other than the providers and your medical insurance and any company they might have hired to recover their money.

No. You would have signed something when you received medical treatment that gave a contractual lien on your settlement or recovery. That would have been given to your lawyer. Your lawyer is responsible for knowing which medical providers have liens and safeguarding those liens.
