Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

Hi,

Over a month + ago, I backed into a parked car. I left my name and number and attempted to reach the owner, but never heard from them. I recently learned they had the car fixed (I have pictures of the damage - it was minor bumper damage and a broken light) and I received a message on my phone that they'd like my address to send me the receipt. I'm concerned because I was not involved in the process, nor did I see any repair quotes. I've not reported it to my insurance and I'm not sure if I should or what my rights are in this matter, as I don't want to get taken advantage of. Is there a certain amount of days the have to call me or fix the car? Do I have to pay him without having seen any other quotes?

Thank you,

Amanda

You should have contacted your insurance initially but that is water under the bridge..The first thing you should do now is contact your insurance immediately. They might put up a stink about not paying because you did not contact them initially which they would call noncooperation and breach of the contract. But if it is a small claim and if the damage fixed is consistent with your photos they will probably pay it.In the future contact you insurance when things like this happen. This is what you are paying them for.
