The court charges $299 to file a bankruptcy. Some people qualify for a court fee waiver, depending on their income. There are several self-help books available in the library or in a bookstore if you choose not to be represented by an attorney. Bankruptcy would discharge debts arising from an accident resulting from negligence. Debts arising from driving under the influence, however, are not dischargeable.
