Legal Question in Personal Injury in California
Landlords Harassed My Wife To Death
Our landlords pursued an illegal eviction action against us (refused to accommodate my wife's disability). During the process the landlords' attorneys were advised by my wife's doctor that their excessive (and probably illegal) actions were causing my wife extreme physical and mental/emotional damage, but the attorneys ignored the doctor's warning. After receiving yet another legal notice from the landlords (which was totally unnecessary), my wife became extremely upset and began suffering from severe migraine headaches. Seeking any possible relief from the pain, she inadvertenly took too much of her pain medication and died. The landlords and their attorneys knew that they were hurting her, yet they just continued...do I have any cause for a wrongful death lawsuit?

Re: Landlords Harassed My Wife To Death
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, and the circumstances surrounding it. Sadly, I can't be very encouraging about the wrongful death case you are considering.
The cause of your wife's death was her inadvertant overdose. I don't think this was a foreseeable consequence of the landlord's actions. Even if it was, the landlord would only be liable if he breached a duty that he legally owed to you and your wife. If the landlord's actions were proper then he/she is not liable for the effects they had on you or your wife.
You say the eviction was illegal but you don't explain why you think so. Even people who are sick or disabled can be evicted; otherwise landlords would have to house them rent-free. I would need more information before I could say whether the landlord and the lawyers were doing something illegal.
I'm truly sorry I can't be more encouraging.
