Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

Living together

I lived with a man for 8 years. When we first moved in with one another he was in between jobs but assured me that was going to change immediately. Well it took 6 years. I supported both of us for the first 6 years, the 7th year he contributed to our support and the 8th year he contributed most of money needed to support us. Then he left me for someone else. Can I sue him for his half of the money I contributed adjusted by what he contributed? We had no written agreements but many verbal ones.

Re: Living together

Since California does not recognize common law marriages, you would be fighting an uphill battle. Of course, if there was a written agreement, you could make a strong argument that the contract was breached. But since the only type of agreement here was verbal, it would be very difficult to prove that he owed you any further financial responsibilities. You may want to seek the assistance of a family law specialist.

Re: Living together

It's tough to prove verbal agreements. Probably you are solidly out of luck for not having gotten married as there is no such thing as common law marriage in CA. But some other attorney might not agree with me. Consult one in person.
