My mom was involved in a car accident while visiting another state (Idaho) and suffered injuries. She lives in California. How would she go about filing a suit to recover her expenses?

She can retain a lawyer in CA who also is licensed to practice law in ID. Or, she can retain an attorney in ID to represent her interests.

But before you file suit you or your attorney deals with the other pary's insurance carrier to see if the matter can be settled. If your mother was less than 50% at fault, she sees if her own insurance has any coverage for damage to her car and medical bills.
