Legal Question in Personal Injury in California
My niece and her family was in a car accident and the insurance of the car that hit her is asking for her children's social security numbers. Is this something she should be giving them?

No. She should not be talking to the other insurance company at all. If someone was injured in the accident, she should consult a personal injury attorney in her locality without delay.

I agree that your niece should be represented by a lawyer but the social security number has to be provided because the insurance company needs to verify that no Medicare or MediCal benefits were received by your niece and her family that needs to be paid back to the government. That law has been in effect now for about two or three years.
