Legal Question in Personal Injury in California
is the other party allowed to contact my wife?
Actually the wife of the defendant in a lawsuit that has been filed, served papers, & atty's on both sides talking. The wife of the defendant saw the plantiff's wife's car in a public parking lot. Then went into the place of business & told the owner. who knows both ladys. that its a shame they (defendants) were being sued by the plantiff's & she (plaintiff's wife better watch out. Then she left without purchasing anything. Can she legally do that? I thought both parties could only speak thru their lawyers? Is their a penality for this? should I tell my lawyer? I don't want to waste his time.

Re: is the other party allowed to contact my wife?
You ABSOLUTELY should tell your lawyer. There is no strict prohibition against talking to the other party, though it would be unethical for an attorney to put his client up to it.
But what really concerns me is the "You better watch out" comment, which sounds like a threat. Get the names of anyone who heard this and give the info to your attorney as well. He or she should put a stop to this.
