The statute of limitations on an injury case is 2 years from the date of the accident. After that time, your claims will be forever barred.
I am in injury attorney in your area. If you would like to discuss this further, feel free to contact me.

The advice attorney Itkin gave you is incorrect.
If a police vehicle caused your injuries, you must get an attorney immediately because special laws and time limits apply. Your attorney must present a claim to the public entity -- the city or county whose police vehicle it was -- within six months. Thereafter, there are very short time limits for filing your lawsuit.

Re: personal injury with a police vehicle
After you are done with medical care, you or your atty should get the final bill and report and submit it to the ins. co. along with other items. It can then take 30-45 days for the ins. co. to respond with an offer if they have everything they need. But who is "they"? Did you submit the claim or someone else? You have 2 years from the date of accident to either settle or file a lawsuit.
Re: personal injury with a police vehicle
I am very surprised that three of the four attorneys got the answer wrong. Any claim against a government entity must have a claim filed within 6 months from the date of the injury, or all rights will be lost.
Email me, as I have handled many claims against police agencies.
