Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

First of all, thank you for reading my question. Recently there was a house fire at where I was living with my mom, we moved into her boyfriends house. And all our belongings is burnt, my mom is injured with a 3rd deg. burn. My question is. He is saying he/insurance cannot pay for HER hospital fee or belongings that were lost. We are so vulnerable esp. my mom. I wish you can tell me what our rights are. People tell us, we can get money since we were a 'guest'. Also, the fire is still under investigatioin and he tells us that the insurance co. says until they find the suspect/bad guy they won't pay him anything.. Please help me, I'm very helpless.

You would have to ask to read the policy. You question is unclear whether you moved into yor mother's boyfriend before or after the fire. You can ask the boyfriend for his insurance company and make your own claim, and then deal with his insurance company. Typically, unless you were part of the insured's family, you may not be entitled to compensation for your losses, only if you were famly, but that is why you need to read the policy.
